Ahead of it's imminent publication, Laurie J Proud's latest comic strip, 'Hotel Charlie', has been selected for the coveted US based 3 x 3 Illustration Annual 2010. Laurie's trademark style, combining popular 1940's American imagery with a surreal cinematographic twist, is perfected with a mixture of physical and digital textures to create a finely crafted, monochrome world of flawed dreams and desires.
Laurie wanted to create the look of a miniature world made from paper and card, inspired by Edward Burra and the German 'new objectivity' movement of the late 20s, a lot of which used collage to define different parts of the image.
